In this 2-part hands-on event, with our Bernina educator Kathy Shalda, expand your quilting skills and explore the power of software for quilting and personalization.

In the first half of the day, discover four versatile quilting techniques as our expert instructor guides students:

Walking Foot Quilting – Achieve precise, even stitches with controlled straight-line designs.

Free-Motion Quilting – Gain confidence in creating organic, flowing quilt patterns by hand.

Rulerwork Quilting – Add structure and precision to your quilting with specialty rulers.

Automated Quilting – Let technology do the work with computerized quilting techniques.

In the second portion of the class, dive into the creative possibilities of embroidery software for quilting. Learn how to:

Create custom quilting designs with embroidery software

Design and stitch quilt labels for a personal touch

Enhance your quilts with embroidery by adding texture, motifs, and detail

Instructor:	Kathy Shalda - Bernina Educator
Instructor Bio:	Kathy Shalda has been a BERNINA owner and lover for over 40 years. Her first BERNINA was the original mechanical 830. Her grandmother taught her to sew at an early age and she has enjoyed the creativity sewing inspires ever since. Kathy has a degree in dental hygiene and practiced in the field for 25 years. After making an out-of-state-move Kathy retired from dental hygiene and began a new career at a local quilt shop. She spent 13 years working at the shop teaching quilt classes, selling on the floor and creating quilt patterns. About that time, the BERNINA store that serviced her machines was looking for help and Kathy went to work for them. She taught classes, worked the floor and helped plan and execute special events, eventually becoming the assistant store manager. Kathy moved to Texas in 2013. Later that year she was invited to join a new team that BERNINA was putting together. She has enjoyed being part of the BERNINA Event Team ever since and is starting the 11th year on the team. Kathy resides in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas with her husband Jim. Together they have 3 sons and 8 grandchildren.
