By the Seat of Your Pants - Make a Pant Block!

You will learn how to draft your own block for pants.  We will explore measuring, drafting and fitting.  We will hopefully take the frustration out of fitting your own pants.  We will also explore how to add seam allowances to the block, design and fit features like pleats and darts.  This is a 3 lesson class.  You will need paper on a roll for drafting (think the plain back side of wrapping paper), pattern ease or oak tag paper  (for the last class), mock up material (think muslin or old PLAIN sheets), your sewing machine for the second and 3rd class, cutting shears, paper cutting scissors, measuring tape, pencils with big erasers, a fine point sharpie, long pins with easy grip heads, safety pins, tailor’s chalk, 2 inch wide X 18” long clear plastic ruler, clear tape, tailor’s curve rulers and any other tools you might think is handy.

Class 1 - The first class will be measuring and drafting so dress accordingly bring your tape measure, paper, paper scissors, dressmaker’s rulers, pencils, tape and eraser.  You will be measuring yourself or a friend and drafting with my instruction.

Class 2 - Pattern testing and fitting.  Bring fabric, sewing machine, pins, markers, fabric shears…

Class 3 - readjust the pattern and true up the markings, redraft the final product.  You will need most of your tools plus your pattern ease or oak tag for the final product.

The end goal is to end up with a working pattern, not a garment.  You will be expected to complete the project within the allotted class time, so homework may be essential to your success.
