Collage from a Photograph - Tree Frog (2 Day Class)
Take the mystery out of making a collage from a photograph using a photo of a tree frog! Learn how to make a pattern, assemble the collage, and quilt the final piece in this two session class. We will explore some free motion quilting techniques on day 2, so be ready for some fun!
Supply List
Day 1 - Fabric (batiks are best, but use what you have first)
Bright Green 15x15 inches (frog)
Light grey 15x15 (frog)
Cream 5x5 (frog)
Red orange 10x10 (frog)
Bright orange10x10 (frog)
Bright blue 15x15 (frog)
Purple 10x10 (frog)
Dark purple (5x5) frog
Black 5x5 (frog)
Dark Brown 15x15 (tree limb)
Grey-Green 10x10 (moss)
2 very light fat quarters (for practice sandwiches on day 2)
2 fat quarters of any color (for practice sandwiches on day 2)
3 pieces of batting 20x25 for day 2
Background fabric-dark green or black 25x20
Backing fabric 25x20
Other supplies:
Steam a Seam??1.0 yard
Pattern Ease???25x25
Large craft scissors (for cutting paper-bring scissors that you don’t mind getting messy)
5” serrated scissors (like Karen Kay Buckley with blue handle or Tim Holz )
Sharpie Marker -fine tip
Mechanical pencil
Fabric Markers (optional)
Colored Pencils (optional)
Day 2
Bring finished collage
2 Quilt Sandwiches for practice made from light fat quarters and batting
Background fabric 25x20
Batting for quilt 25x20
Backing fabric for quilt 25x20
90/14 Topstitch needles, titanium needles or anti glue are a great investment, they last a long time
Sharpie marker
Applique Scissors or Curved Snips
Polyester or Rayon Embroidery Thread in Light green, Orange, Blue, Light Grey, Brown, Black (or color to match your background)
6 extra bobbins
Sewing machine in good working order with spring loaded free motion foot (aka “darning” foot).
Sewing machine manual
Quilting Gloves
We will be doing some free motion quilting on Day 2. I will walk you through it, but please bring a machine that you are familiar with setting up for free motion. There is no need to bring your machine on Day 1.
