Featuring Helen’s Closet Gilbert Top

Fresh like the spring - a new button up shirt for your wardrobe!  Choose your own fabric from a Hawaiian print cotton, a favorite quilting cotton or another favorite woven - you are limited only by your imagination.  We will be using Helen’s Closet Gilbert Top pattern.  The pattern has several sizes to choose from.  Use your measurements, not your existing shirt size to choose your size.  For instance, you may be a store size 12, but your Helen’s Closet size may be a 16.  

This is the perfect follow up class to the Beginning Sewing and PJ Pants class.  You will practice straight seaming, seam finishing, sleeves, creating a collar, building a dart and composing buttonholes!  Helen’s thoughtful patterns include beginner friendly instructions.  Her patterns feature elegant construction techniques that lead to a refined and well finished product.  

There will be 3 classes:  the first will be pattern prep and cutting fabric, the second will be the major construction instruction and example, and the third will be continuing construction and finishing techniques.  Bring a set of highlighters so we can practice reading the pattern instructions during each class, as it is an acquired skill for many.

Even though the pattern is for women, we will adjust for the male sewist, so please contact the store and the teacher for more information about the male counterpart!

Tape

Set of highlighters 

Paper scissors

Prewashed fabric (check pattern for yardage)

Buttons that coordinate

Sewing Machine

Sewing Kit (supplies: Thread, cutting shears, thread clippers, bobbins, etc.)
