Introduction to Thread Painting
No Quilting Experience Necessary

Class fee: $50
Maximum 10 students
In this class you will learn basic thread painting techniques on a stationary machine by
stitching a bluebird! We will cover transferring an image onto fabric, thread stitching,
stitching a realistic eye, basting, and blending colors.
Class Supply list
1 sheet of white Saral Transfer paper or other white transfer paper(optional)
Ball point pen
2 14x14 pieces of dark fabric for background and back of quilt
14x14 piece of THIN batting or flannel
10 inch plastic or wooden round embroidery hoop
Sewing machine in good working condition with spring loaded free motion or darning
foot
Sewing machine repair kit
Sewing machine extension table (optional)
5 extra bobbins
Size 90/14 topstitch needles
Small pair of sharp scissors
Thread-please bring polyester or rayon embroidery thread. I’ve included the Isacord lot
numbers if you need help matching the color to the sample, and I’ve put a star (*) by the
colors that are a must have for class:
*Black 0020
*Dark orange 1321 (burnt umber)
*Hint of blue 3963 (very light blue)
*Reef blue 3815 (bright blue)
Flag Blue 3335 (dark blue)
*Pearl 0176 (light grey)
Fieldstone 0124 (med grey)
Cobblestone 0108 (dark grey)
Vanilla 0660 (cream)
Mimosa 0504 (dark yellow)
Lavender Whisper 0350 (light purple)
Dark Brown 0576
