Hummingbird Collage from a Photograph

Class Description for Collage from a Photograph with Rachael Logsdon

Day 1

Students will learn how to create a wall hanging from an 8x10 photo of a hummingbird. Even though the pattern will be supplied, we will cover all aspects of the design, includingphoto choice, how to make the pattern, color vs value, fabric choices, collage assembly, and preparing the collage for quilting.

Day 2

Students will learn how to quilt and “thread paint” their collage. We will attach our collages to a background, review the basics of free motion quilting, thread and needle recommendations, and free motion troubleshooting. We will cover the quilting techniques used in the sample wall hanging.

Note - this class is to teach a technique, and it is possible that you may have to finish your project at home. But by the end of class, you will know how to make a realistic wall hanging from a photo from start to finish.
