Do you want to try collage quilting?  Do you have a stash of florals waiting to create a collage?  Join me to use the colors of spring to create your own unique collage.

Please Read about the New format:

Optional PREP CLASS: I have broken this class into 2 days: a 2 hour class learning to prepare collage fabrics for the workshop, and a second class to create the collage in an all day workshop. The PREP CLASS on February 10  (March 9th if you are registered for the March 23 class) is optional but I strongly recommend it for anyone who has not taken a Laura Heine collage class or wants to learn the best collage preparation techniques for the workshop on February 24 (OR March 23). If you do not attend the optional prep class, please bring your prepared materials. We will not be covering this section in the all day collage workshop. More information provided below. When you register for class, please make sure the store has your current contact info in case I need to reach you.

Required Supplies for PREP CLASS, February 10 (or March 9th), 2024

PATTERNS: Students can choose either Spool of Flowers or Hip Hop Rabbit. All students must have their own pattern.  Students have successfully completed both patterns. The Spool of Flowers is a quicker design.  Choose early to ensure availability Students get a 10% discount on all class materials.

Steam a Seam 2 (not the LITE version).  Bring at least 2 yards, 12” wide or equivalent.  Steam a Seam2 is the  only fusible that works for Laura’s type of collage quilts. For the Prep Class, you only need 2 yards.  You will need more to complete the collage but you can purchase additional amounts on the day of class as needed.

Fabric:  Bring a variety of scraps or small pieces of floral fabrics (patterns suggest sizes and number of fabrics but these are approximate).  Include a few other designs such as birds, leaves, and vines.  It’s also fun to include prints that fit with your pattern choice. For example, for the spool, you may want to include a few sewing motifs. The best varieties include different size prints, large, medium, small, and almost solid.

Scisssors: Bring sharp scissors. You can choose any scissors, but I find small or medium scissors work best for making collages. Karen K Buckley medium scissors with ridged blades make cutting easier.  I also LOVE the small red curved Karen Buckley scissors for cutting curved pieces.

Iron, ironing mat or pad (Shop also has 2 irons but many students like to have one at their table)
