Laura Heine Eeny Weeny COLLAGE CLASS: Pumpkin Head Family

Get ready for Halloween! Join Kelly to create these quick “Eeny Weeny” pumpkin
heads. Choose from any of the Pumpkin Head family. There are separate patterns for
Mr., Mrs.,Little Girl, and Little Boy Pumpkin Heads. Pumpkin Heads can be traditional or
modern and unique as your creative spirit. This class teaches the basics of using Steam
a Seam2 and the Laura Heine underlay technique. Take home a finished (or nearly
finished) collage for your fall decorating! These are quick collages for you and your
Halloween friends!

Every student must have their own pattern.
Students get a 10% discount on all
class materials so please choose early. These patterns are popular!

Fabrics:
See back of pattern. Small pieces and scraps can work. Note that backing
fabric listed is for quilt without any borders or other finishing. Lots of Halloween and Fall
fabrics provide great details for fussy cutting. I used bats and pumpkins.

Fabrics for the pumpkin heads:
The price of the class includes 2 pumpkin heads
from the Spooktacular line of Free Spirit. Or you can make your own pumpkin head out
of your favorite pumpkin fabrics. Additional heads may be available to purchase in
class.

Binding, Border, and Backing fabrics — Depending how you plan to use your

pumpkin head, this will vary. The pattern only covers the collage (approximately 8”x
10” center). To make a small quilt similar to mine, a quarter yard will be plenty for the
borders like mine. A quarter yard can make bindings for 2 quilts. A ½ yard can make 2
backings. Batting should be the size of your collage. Adjust your sashing size, backing,
and batting size to fit your project idea. We can discuss in class.

Sewing Machine (Optional):
Bring a machine if you want to quilt your Pumpkin Head
in class. I will demonstrate quilting techniques and make suggestions for other ways to
finish. Most students choose to complete 2 Pumpkin Heads in class and finish at home.

REQUIRED Notions: See back of pattern for pattern ease, Steam a Seam2, etc.

Transparent Applique Pressing Sheet REQUIRED. 12” x 12” or larger.
Must be
able to see through. You will find it is very handy on many applique quilts. SMF carries
several sizes and styles. Check early or call the shop in case you need one ordered.

#2 pencil. I suggest one dark pencil and a colored chalk (pink, blue, or yellow) pencil if
you have one. Dark pencils don’t show up if you are using dark fabrics.

Sewing notions. Pins, scissors, quality thread, rotary cutter and rotary mat (medium
size).

OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED NOTIONS:
Karen K Buckley medium scissors
(ridged blades make cutting easier) or similar scissors. I also like the small red curved
Karen Buckley scissors for cutting curved pieces.
