Classes


With every machine purchase at classes are offered so that you can “master” all that your machine can do for you. We feel that the more you know about your machine, the more you will enjoy your sewing experience. Our students are invited to attend My BERNINA Classes as often as they like. We understand that “reinforcement” leads to true mastery.

Our team includes talented teachers who offer classes such as beginning sewing, quilting, home decoration, crafting, garment construction, and heirloom sewing. Many of our customers have discovered that classes provide the opportunity to learn new techniques, sew without interruption, and build friendships with a diverse group of people bound together by their love of sewing. We hope you will join in on the fun! 

CANCELLATION Policy on fee based classes:  To receive a refund on a class you have paid for, you must notify us at least 24 hours in advance of the first session.  The teacher may decide whether or not to allow a transfer to another class they are teaching.   No refunds or transfers if you are a no-show to the class.

If your class is an all day class, please feel free to bring a lunch and store it in our refrigerator.  Going out to eat can be fun, but takes away from your class time.

This is a beginner/intermediate class. You will learn the technique of drawing a quilt block into your prepared board and how to create sharp lines and points when painting. No previous art skills are required. Instructor will provide a wide variety of designs to choose from. An added bonus: In this class you will learn how to make your barn quilt look like fabric and you have the option to do a 1X1 OR 2X2

Want to learn how to make your own decorative rope bowl? This beginners rope class will teach you the basics to get you started. You will learn how to coil your base, measure the rope, determine the width of your bowl, and how to angle your hands to make the sides. We will talk about strategies to add decorative features, tension on the feeding rope, and how to finish the bowl. This class is designed to give you the basic techniques so that you can become addicted to it as I have!

Come make a teeny tiny winter collage with Kelly! Choose from the Teeny Tiny Collage Patterns #10: Santa, Snowman, or Reindeer OR Teeny Tiny Collage Patterns # 3: the Winter Bear. The Teeny Tiny patterns tend to be 16 x 20. Bring a friend and enjoy a fun day sharing fabric, ideas, and creativity.

Get ready for Halloween! Come join Kelly to create AND quilt these “Eeny Weeny” pumpkin heads. Choose from any of the Pumpkin Head family. There are separate patterns for Mr. Pumpkin Head, Mrs. Pumpkin Head, Little Girl Pumpkin Head and Little Boy Pumpkin Head. Pumpkin Heads can be traditional or modern and unique as your creative spirit. This one-day class teaches the basics of using Steam a Seam2 and the Laura Heine underlay technique. If you have made a collage but wonder how to finish, we will cover finishing options. Quilt your pumpkin head and take home a finished (or nearly finished) collage for your fall decorating!

These monthly tabletoppers are so much fun to make!! You will learn different techniques each month. Any skill level can join us! The piecing is all done in the hoop along with the appliqu? and then the blocks and borders are added with regular sewing. You can quilt them or simply stitch in the ditch. We will be using the 5x7 (large oval hoop) or midi hoop if you wish for all of the projects. A great opportunity to learn your embroidery machine and techniques.

Come along and learn to sew! Learn basic sewing skills, how your sewing machine works (You can rent a machine from the store if you need to), and how to make various items, quarter-inch seams, and some different kinds of stitches as well. We will sew a tissue holder in this class.

In this class, we will be learning how to make a Burrito-style pillowcase with a French seam. This style of pillowcase is incredibly easy once you know how to do it! Pillowcase kits may be purchased at the store.

In this session of the class, we will learn how to make a Tea Towel Apron. The Apron is super easy, and very fun too!

In the last session of Learning to Sew, we will learn how to make a Humbug bag! It comes in three awesome sizes! These are cool little gifts for family and friends and are very easy to make! You will also learn to put in a zipper!

This class will give you all the basics for machine quilting! There will be information on threads, batting, threads and more for good results on all your quilts. We will be making small placemat size quilt samples using many stitches. Many ideas will be covered to make your quilts very special. Some of the stitches Susan uses are quilt doodles, fill stitches & some are border motifs. We will also be using script as well. If you want to make a tote bag purse from your sandwich there is a pattern available for purchase. It will be a fun day of creative stitching! Join Susan for a fun day of quilting!!!

This class is fun on so many levels! It was inspired from Melissa Averinos new book, “Making Faces in Fabric”. If you have taken Susan’s Machine Quilting Classes this is a great addition to improve those skills. We will first create a simple (funny) face in the morning using fabric collage techniques (and NO you do not have to be a portrait artist!) using unique fabrics, then in the afternoon we will machine quilt all the details such as eyelashes, cheeks, hair, etc. It is easy to create a face if you don’t have to make it look like anyone special. Just play and have fun with it!!! These could be made into placemats, small wall hangings, tote bags, pillows and more! This will be a no stress day of playing with fabric and threads!

Swish and skim through the last few weeks of summer with the airy Mave skirt, pattern by TrueBias. Use a light to medium weight fabric with drape in 58” or wider. Rayon challis, crepe, cotton, linen, cotton lawn, voile, silk, rayon voile, or georgette from Sew Much Fun would be perfect for the last hurrah of summer!

In this course you will learn to master your BERNINA Sewing machine. Learn to care for your machine, and how to use specialty functions to customize your machine?s settings to your needs. You?ll learn to use the most important utility stitches on your machine, such as straight stitches, overlock stitches, long stitches, blind hem, and buttonholes. In addition, you?ll learn about the many creative options of your machine, including decorative stitches, combi mode, free-motion stitching and more. We will work step by step through hands-on activities from the My BERNINA Sewing Mastery Workbook.

Need space to spread out? Want to sew with friends? Come to Sew Much Fun! on our scheduled Open Sew Days to catch up on your projects, start new projects, catch up with old friends and make new friends! There is no cost, but you need to register due to space limitations.

This beginning quilting class will explore many piecing techniques. You will learn from ground zero how to cut, sew & press each block. We will also talk about products & how they affect the finished quilt. So use the good stuff! Good thread, good fabric, good tools, good skills make for a beautiful finish! Each block will build to create a wall hanging or baby quilt or small lap quilt when finished. Come join us for a Trunk Show given by Robin Long of Robin Ruth Designs. Robin will give a detailed overview of the modern technique and projects using Robin Ruth Design’s system of rulers, books, and patterns for STRIP PIECED mariner’s compass blocks and variations. Robin will share how she is bringing the mariner’s compass block into the 21st century with her modern technique and projects for how you can create your own modern mariner’s compass project. She is an innovative designer with wonderful quilts to share. You will be inspired!

Now that you have mastered the art of making rope bowls, you need to find different ways of finishing your product. If you have not discovered yet, using variegated thread, fabric, and colored rope will make the same sized bowl look uniquely different. So why not add other features to the same bowl! You can give it a new look by adding handles, beads, braids, and buttons. Come join the class to experiment with different finishing touches that will enhance your already perfect bowl.

Come learn basic sewing terminology, to use a sewing machine, to sew basic seams & construct simple projects to take home! This is Susan?s newest pattern! It is all about Applique using many stitches on your machine, that seem to be forgotten. She will guide you through all the ways to cut, fuse and stitch these beautiful wildflowers. Then let?s make a funky border of wacky triangles! This could be made lager or smaller if you like. It?s a fun project, so join Susan for lots of stitching!
