Tuffet Class - 2 day class

Tuffets are a touch of whimsy for your home that blend with all decors and bridge the gap between design and function.  In addition to being heirloom home accents, they make treasured gifts for special occasions including weddings, new babies, anniversaries and special birthdays.
Learn to sew a gorgeous cover with your choice of fabrics during the first class session and turn the cover into an upholstered footstool in the second class.

Tuffet Class Supply and Information Sheet

Materials Needed for Class #1

  1. Tuffet Source Pattern (fusible interfacing included)
  2. 64 strips of fabric 2 ½ “ by 21” (This can be 1 jelly roll of at least 32 strips cut in half to yield 64 strips, or it can be fabric cut to this size and number or strips.)
  3. 1 ¼ yds. of muslin
  4. 6” square of fabric for button and 1 fat quarter of fabric for the bottom (a fat quarter will be enough if you are using the same fabric for both)
  5. 12” Add-a-Quarter Ruler with the cardboard insert (or another piece of cardboard or plastic template material if you do not have the insert that came with the ruler)
  6. Sewing machine in good running order
  7. Sewing supplies (scissors, pins, thread)
  8. Rotary cutter with sharp blade
  9. Optional – Cutting mat, ironing mat, iron

Pre-Class Preparation

  1. Cut fusible into two pieces, but do not cut panels apart yet. Cut advertising off so it will fit onto your muslin.
  2. Fuse the panels to your muslin using a medium setting. Make sure they fuse securely, but do not scorch your fusible or muslin.
  3. After fusing, cut apart the 8 panels, but do not cut exactly on the cutting lines yet. Leave some space around the cutting lines for now.
  4. Bring these panels to class.
  5. If you want your fabric strips to be in a certain order, lay out your strips as you want them on the finished tuffet. Arrange them into 8 stacks of 8 strips in the order that you have chosen. (If you do not care what order the strips are in, you can skip this step.)

Materials Needed for Class #2

  1. Tuffet Construction Kit (with pre-drilled wooden base, 18” round upholstery foam with beveled edge, upholstery batting, t-nuts, cording and button)
  2. 4 bun feet with 5/16”-18 hanger bolt already installed
  3. You can purchase your kit from Sew Much Fun! If you decide not to purchase a kit, you should install your t-nuts and adhere your foam to the wooden base before coming to Class #2.  NOTE:  Class 2 will be individually scheduled.
