Playing with Trees
Come and have fun creating a one-of-a-kind tree. Using the “Tree” pattern by Laura Heine, we will make a tree wall size quilt. It can be a Christmas tree, a jeweled tree, a spring time tree, or maybe patriotic tree. The possibilities are limited only by our imaginations. You will leave with your tree ready to layer and quilt. And then, embellish a little, a lot, or leave it simple. We will go over options for embellishment and get to work!
Supplies Needed
Sewing Machine (in good working order).
Pattern: “Tree” by Laura Heine. Available at Sew Much Fun!
See supply list on pattern. NOTE: Pattern says Steam a Seam. Use LITE Steam a Seam 2 or Regular Steam a Seam2 (Steam a Seam no longer available). Note that the Lite is easier to machine quilt. Also, it will be easier if it is the 24” wide roll.
The tree “foliage” is made from strips. Bring at least 20 coordinating 1 ½ to 2 ½” strips. Jelly rolls work great.
Medium to fine dark Sharpie pen (must be a ‘no-bleed’ permanent pen). You can use any type of no-bleed marker EXCEPT markers that disappear as you iron them.
Regular Sewing Supplies including thread, needles, etc.
Optional:
Fabric glue (e.g., Fusion Glue) with small tip.
Karen K Buckley medium (blue handles) scissors (ridged blades make cutting easier) or similar scissors. I also like the small embroidery size scissors for cutting inside edges.
Buttons
Yo Yo makers (circles, flowers, hearts, etc) in various sizes with hand needles and thread
Any other embellishments you want to decorate your tree
