Come join us at the Holiday Collage Quilt class. There are many Fall/Halloween patterns (Black Cat, Jack Pumpkin, Dee Ceased, Scarecrow, Pheasant) and choices for Winter/Christmas (Nick, Peppermint, Gingerbread House, Polar, and Let It Snow). Tip: Check the pattern size of your choice. Many are much bigger than others. But all are wonderful! If you want, you may also choose Teeny Tiny pattern #10 (only this Teeny Tiny#), which has 3 Christmas patterns in one. The Teeny Tiny patterns tend to be 16 x 20. Bring a friend and enjoy a fun day sharing fabric, ideas, and creativity.
Sew Much Fun carries many patterns but they sell out. So please choose your pattern early and let them know at least 2 weeks prior to class in case your favorite is sold out. They can reorder but need 2 weeks.
Remember all supplies purchased from SMF for class receive a 10% discount and you don’t pay shipping. As a certified Laura Heine teacher, I honor all copyright laws and everyone must have their own pattern.
In Class; The class will cover tips to prepare your fabrics and the techniques to cut and blend fabrics, analyze color movement, and build your collage. We end class with a discussion of finishing options.
PRE CLASS HOMEWORK: READ THROUGH YOUR PATTERN. Once you have signed up, I will also send you some preclass prep to do if you choose to do so (optional).
Supplies--- Check the back of the pattern you choose. Each one differs slightly. Note some require Pattern Ease for the background and some require fabric background.
Important: Please NOTE that Sewing Machine is optional. Only needed if you plan to piece a fabric background. Check your pattern. If you plan to fuse to Pattern Ease, no machine is needed.
Background fabrics: For Pattern Ease backgrounds, “6x9” work well. Or you can create a fabric background of your choice (whole or pieced).
For the focal point, (e.g., Santa, Cat) fabrics: variety of scraps or small pieces (8”x* 10” or smaller) with “cuttables” (florals, motifs, characters, leaves, feathers, etc.). Make sure you have some fabrics with different size prints, including small. Also, you will need some small pieces of tone on tone or low contrast prints to use in collage blending. Small amounts of a variety are better than large pieces.
Binding and Backing fabrics (not needed for class). We will discuss options for batting.
Pattern Easefor some patterns: check pattern for size.
Steam a Seam 2 fusible. It is a double sided fusible. Note, Laura Heine recommends Steam a Seam 2, not the Lite version.
Fabric glue. I like the Fabric Fusion. Important that the glue can withstand heat and dry clear. Sold at SMF.
Transparent Applique Pressing Sheet (medium or large). Must be able to see through to trace. You will find it is very handy on many applique quilts. SMF carries several sizes and styles.
BLACK Sharpie pen (must be a ‘no-bleed’ permanent pen). Medium or Fine if you can read the fine through the applique pressing sheet.
#2 dark pencil for marking underlays. If you are using dark fabrics, bring a pink or blue pencil that will show up. White will not show up on SAS2.
Karen K Buckley medium scissors (ridged blades make cutting easier) or similar scissors. I also like the small red curved Karen Buckley scissors for cutting curved pieces.
