Don’t have time to make the big Poppins Bag? Let’s learn how to sew on cork and do handles.
Prior to the class you will need to purchase the Cork Totes pattern. This pattern shows 2 bags but we are doing the one in the size that you chose so we can focus on learning how to construct handles. Be sure that the cork piece you chose supports the size of pattern you have chosen.
To prepare for the class you will need to purchase the supplies listed on the back of the pattern under the appropriate size you have chosen. I recommend that you purchase the pre-made bottoms as specified. If not available we can learn how to construct our own template. If doing so, bring paper to draw template on. Also, it is important to have either a Teflon pressing sheet or parchment paper so you don’t damage your cork or ironing board.
Then you will need to refer to page 1 of the pattern, again under the appropriate size, and cut out your fabric, etc., as specified. Be sure to label and keep your pieces organized. Since we will not be putting in a zipper ignore the cutting directions for Zipper Tabs and Bows. Concentrate on bag body, handles, binding, pockets, and bottom.
You will also need basic sewing supplies. These are also listed on the pattern. When sewing it is nice to have your FHS, a #10 foot, a quarter inch foot, and your walking foot. NOTE: A 45MM ROTARY CUTTER is not big enough for project.
