Laura Heine released her newest pattern to her certified teaches on Friday. Kelly has brought them back and Sew Much Fun has them. This collage will not be released to the public until later in the summer so come now and enjoy a day of fun! Start gathering your flowers, your leaves, your dots, your feathers, and your favorite words! Whether you are a beginner or a devotee, learn Laura’s (and Kelly’s) newest hints to collage your fabrics and create your next unique quilt.
Featherweight Collage Quilt
One Day Class: 10:00 to 3:30.
This class will focus on Laura Heine’s newest pattern, Featherweight. Kelly will share the newest suggestions Laura offers and you will have fun creating this classic image in class. We will cover the techniques to blend fabrics and use them to create these popular art quilts. We focus on analyzing color movement, building the design and foundation and tips to prepare your fabrics. We end class with a discussion of finishing options. Reserve your spot and you will be amazed at how far you get in completing this quilt.
Due to copyright restrictions, all students must have their own copy of “Featherweight,” available at Sew Much Fun.
Supplies: See back of pattern but also note the following:
“Sewing Machine” refers to the image of the Featherweight. You do not need to bring a sewing machine.
“Quilt” refers to the floral ‘quilt’ at the bottom of the collage quilt. Note that my ‘table’ are the golds on either end with the quilt showing flowers, cat, and leaves in multiple colors.
“Thread: refers to the spool. I used a striped fabric along with some flowers.
It is helpful to have some small pieces of tone on tone or low contrast prints to use in collage blending.
You don’t need the brand, Goddess, for your applique pressing sheet but you do need one that is transparent…either white or another ‘see through’ color.
Binding and backing fabrics are not needed for class.
Steam a Seam 2 fusible: Note, the pattern recommends Steam a Seam 2 not the Lite Steam a Seam2 version. I agree.
Fabric glue. I like the Fabric Fusion. Important that the glue can withstand heat and dry clear.
Optional: Karen K Buckley medium (blue) scissors (ridged blades make cutting easier) or similar scissors. I also use the small red curved Karen Buckley scissors for cutting curved pieces. Everyone at the certification class agrees that the Buckley scissors speed up the cutting and accuracy of the cutting. You might bring your travel iron so you won't have to wait to use the store iron.
Small wool pressing pad. I use one that is 9” x 12” but any size will work.
