How to Make a T-Shirt Quilt

In this class, you will learn how to select a stabilizer for your t-shirts, the proper way to adhere it to your to-shirts, how to best cut the t-shirts to use in the quilt (or store for future use), and the rulers that you might want to use.  We will discuss possible layouts for your quilt.  We will also talk about which batting to select to have the feel that you would like for your finished quilt.

This is not a sewing class, so you do not need to bring your sewing machine, but you should be proficient in basic piecing/quilting skills.  You will need to bring no more than 5 to 10 t-shirts to practice thinking about your quilt based on our discussions in class.  You can bring a cutting mat, a rotary cutter, a pair of scissors, and any large, square rulers you may have if you would like to actually practice cutting a t-shirt for use in a quilt.  Because the process involves math in determining your quilt design and size, a calculator is highly recommended.  Pencil and paper for notes are also highly recommended.  If you want to iron your stabilizer to your t-shirts, an iron is recommended as the store has a limited supply.

At the end of this class, you will be able to design and piece a quilt based on the stash of t-shirts that you have been saving for a quilt for yourself or a loved one.
