Classes


With every machine purchase at classes are offered so that you can “master” all that your machine can do for you. We feel that the more you know about your machine, the more you will enjoy your sewing experience. Our students are invited to attend My BERNINA Classes as often as they like. We understand that “reinforcement” leads to true mastery.

Our team includes talented teachers who offer classes such as beginning sewing, quilting, home decoration, crafting, garment construction, and heirloom sewing. Many of our customers have discovered that classes provide the opportunity to learn new techniques, sew without interruption, and build friendships with a diverse group of people bound together by their love of sewing. We hope you will join in on the fun! 

CANCELLATION Policy on fee based classes:  To receive a refund on a class you have paid for, you must notify us at least 24 hours in advance of the first session.  The teacher may decide whether or not to allow a transfer to another class they are teaching.   No refunds or transfers if you are a no-show to the class.

If your class is an all day class, please feel free to bring a lunch and store it in our refrigerator.  Going out to eat can be fun, but takes away from your class time.

Classes


Join us each month as we make a project using your embroidery machine. The projects will be related to the season and small enough to finish during your class. Bring your machine and meet fellow embroiders to have sew much fun!

Azul is a stunning array of blues working together in perfect harmony. Linda McGibbons of Lakeview Quilting created this beautiful quilt using Windhams Azul fabric line. The classic blue and white collection features beautiful florals, tiny blooms, stripes, and textured blenders. This pattern was inspired by the Seminole Patchwork method and incorporates Star Blocks and Flying Geese. This block of the month consists of traditional pieced blocks. As a free bonus: Paper piecing instructions with templates are included for those that prefer to use paper piecing methods.

Black Jewel is a show stopping quilt made of brightly colored batiks. Linda McGibbons of Lakeview Quilting created this beautiful quilt using Anthologys Black Jewel fabric line. Black Jewels name was inspired by all the diamonds in the sashing of the quilt. You will use these stunning batiks to traditionally piece star blocks and flying geese. As a free bonus: Paper piecing instructions with templates are included for those that prefer to use paper piecing methods.

Come along and learn to sew! Learn basic sewing skills, how your sewing machine works (You can rent a machine from the store if you need to), and how to make various items, like a buttonhole, quarter-inch seams, and some different kinds of stitches as well. We will sew a tissue holder in this class.

In this class, we will be learning how to make a Burrito-style pillowcase with a French seam. This style of pillowcase is incredibly easy once you know how to do it! Pillowcase kits may be purchased at the store.

In the last session of Learning to Sew, we will learn how to make a Humbug bag! It comes in three awesome sizes! These are cool little gifts for family and friends and are very easy to make! You will also learn to put in a zipper!

The 3 hr. machine quilting class just grew into 5 hrs. of quilting play!  We will learn lots of techniques for free-motion quilting, from stippling to flowers & feathers.  There will also be instructions for using the walking foot, so bring your “quilt sandwiches” & come play & draw with your sewing machine

This class is fun on so many levels! It was inspired from Melissa Averinos new book, “Making Faces in Fabric”. If you have taken Susan’s Machine Quilting Classes this is a great addition to improve those skills. We will first create a simple (funny) face in the morning using fabric collage techniques (and NO you do not have to be a portrait artist!) using unique fabrics, then in the afternoon we will machine quilt all the details such as eyelashes, cheeks, hair, etc. It is easy to create a face if you don’t have to make it look like anyone special. Just play and have fun with it!!! These could be made into placemats, small wall hangings, tote bags, pillows and more! This will be a no stress day of playing with fabric and threads!

My BERNINA Class 1 and 2 - Basic Operation for 880 Plus, 790 Plus, 770QE, 740, 590, 570QE, 535, 480, 475QE, 435 Machine overview, presser feet, tension, needles, thread, care and cleaning of machine and sew much more. In this course you will learn to master your BERNINA Sewing machine. Learn to care for your machine, and how to use specialty functions to customize your machine?s settings to your needs. You?ll learn to use the most important utility stitches on your machine, such as straight stitches, overlock stitches, long stitches, blind hem, and buttonholes. In addition, you?ll learn about the many creative options of your machine, including decorative stitches, combi mode, free-motion stitching and more. This little mixed-media quilt is so much fun to make! We will first work on the background with free motion quilting techniques and fabric painting using Caran D?Ache water soluble crayons. You will learn how to couch wire to make the 3-D flower, along with beading. Machine rouching flowers from ribbon, hand and embroidered embellishments. To finish with a very different binding technique that adds a bit of dimension to the edge of this very unique quilt! There will be other flowers to choose from as well. Choices are a lily or a zinnia.

This beginning quilting class will explore many piecing techniques. You will learn from ground zero how to cut, sew & press each block. We will also talk about products & how they affect the finished quilt. So use the good stuff! Good thread, good fabric, good tools, good skills make for a beautiful finish! Each block will build to create a wall hanging or baby quilt or small lap quilt when finished. You will have a quilt top at the end of class using 3 different piecing techniques and machine applique techniques. Most of all we are going to have fun quilting and making new friends! ? Come learn basic sewing terminology, to use a sewing machine, to sew basic seams & construct simple projects to take home! Projects include a tissue holder, pillowcase, cinch bag, and small pillow to name a few. Intended for children 8 years & older. Class is 2 hours from 4pm to 6pm.

Do you a want to learn how to turn that pile of T-shirts you no longer wear into a loving keepsake? Or maybe you want to make a special gift for someone. We can teach you how! Learn the magical process of turning raw t-shirts into a display of memories. In this hands-on sewing class, you?ll start with 12 t-shirts for a twin size or 16 t-shirts for a queen size and be guided through creation of a simple finished quilt top. You will learn how to lay out and start one quilt using the T-shirt Quilts Made Easy book, cut apart t-shirts, iron on stabilizer, precisely cut the t-shirts for quilt placement, cut the blocks apart for a creative design and sew the blocks together with borders (optional).

Tucker University is a monthly series of fully designed technique classes for the Studio 180 Design Tools and Techniques by Deb Tucker. You may already own one and don't remember how to use it! This program offers you an exciting opportunity to build your skills and accuracy. In each Tucker University class, a new Studio 180 Design tool is taught each month. We only make 4? units so each month you can combine and create new blocks.

This is Susan?s newest pattern! It is all about Applique using many stitches on your machine, that seem to be forgotten. She will guide you through all the ways to cut, fuse and stitch these beautiful wildflowers. Then let?s make a funky border of wacky triangles! This could be made lager or smaller if you like. It?s a fun project, so join Susan for lots of stitching!
